The UWI Press Paid Courtesy Call on the Minister of Education, Youth and Information

The University of the West Indies Press management team paid a courtesy call on Senator, the Honourable Ruel Reid, Minister of Education, Youth and Information, at his office to present books in the education list published by the Press, the latest being Leadership for Success: The Jamaican School Experience, edited by Disraeli M. Hutton and Beverley Johnson.

Senator Reid commended UWI Press for its contribution to scholarly publishing and was impressed with the global distribution of the Press’s books in the Middle East, Africa, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Central Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America. The Minister was presented with copies of the Press’s award-winning books, including Quality in Higher Education in the Caribbean, edited by Anna Kasafi Perkins; School-Based Assessment in a Caribbean Public Examination, by Stafford A. Griffith; and Academic Writing Instruction for Creole-Influenced Students, by Vivette Milson-Whyte.

Joseph B. Powell, general manager of UWI Press, said that “this meeting provides an opportunity for the UWI Press and its stakeholders to feature the award-winning content produced by the Press to the Ministry of Education”. Dr Powell took the opportunity to mention the Press’s forthcoming Caribbean Biography Series on notable Caribbean figures such as Marcus Garvey, Earl Lovelace and Derek Walcott.

The UWI Press is a not-for-profit scholarly publisher of books in fourteen academic disciplines. It is particularly well known for its work in Caribbean history, Caribbean cultural studies, Caribbean literature, gender studies, education and political science. Founded in 1992, the Press has over 350 books in print, and over 250 eBooks. Its books are peer-reviewed and approved by an editorial committee of local and international scholars.
